Not a dumb question! Let me explain.

(Let me begin by saying not liking Cat doesn’t necessarily mean interalized misogyny, hey, maybe in some video she once said this really horrible thing and that was offensive and you’re still mad; that wouldn’t be internalized misogyny. (I personally haven’t heard anything offensive from her, but I’m just giving an example.) I’m talking about the Phandom’s very special brand of unjustified hate towards Cat that is absolutely rooted in internalized misogyny)

Also I’ll say that the following is a generalization, and not all Dan and Phil fans act like this:

Okay, let me explain what I mean by comparing Catrific/Cat Valdes to Kickthepj/PJ Liguori.

• both have roughly 600k subscribers/the same amount of fame
• both are really close, longtime friends with Dan and Phil 

When PJ makes a video/vlog with Dan and Phil or says that he’s hanging out this them, everyone loves it! Everyone gets super excited! They talk about how awesome PJ is, how amazing Dan and Phil are, how much they love they friendship they all have with each other, and it’s all just very positive. The Phandom really loves PJ and it’s just really nice and great.

But when Cat makes a video/vlog with Dan and Phil ashdsdffhsdkjfhsdkfj oh ym god it’s all: ’Cat you’re so ugly!’ ‘You’re a huge slut!’ ‘You’re so fake!’  ’You’re a huge bitch!’  ‘You’re just using Dan and Phil for views!’

All these really unjustified hate comments are coming straight out of left field? Cat has roughly the same amount of subscribers as PJ, they’ll both worked equally as hard on their videos to get themselves where they are today, but PJ never gets comments like ‘You’re using Dan and Phil for their fame!”? 

When PJ goes to some red carpet event with Dan and Phil (x) it’s really exciting and fun and there’s going to be 49534953409 edits of it on tumblr within the hour, but when Cat goes to a red carpet event with Dan and Phil (x) it’s the same chorus of hateful comments (You’re a slut, etc) from grumbling fangirls.

And it should be noted that comments like “You’re fake/a slut/a bitch/a hoe/ugly!” are intrinsically misogynistic in themselves.

There’s no justification for the insane amount of hate Cat gets? PJ does all of the same stuff Cat does with Dan and Phil; vlogs, videos, parties, youtube events, etc. but Cat is treated like the village witch with cries of “BEGONE FOUL DEMON WOMAN! TAKE YOUR BRAND OF BLACK MAGIC TO ANOTHER TOWN AND AWAY FROM OUR PRECIOUS DAN AND PHIL“ but with PJ it’s just “PJ baby!!!!! (｡◕‿◕｡)”

The only conclusion that you can come to from all this is that all the Phangirls that hate Cat are dealing with a lot of internalized misogyny and double standards that they’ve set.  I would honestly say that a lot of it has to do with the fact that Phangirls really hate seeing a successful, beautiful woman be friends with Dan and Phil and they’re just plain jealous. 

tl;dr: cat is beautiful and pretty and talented but most importantly a beautiful, pretty, and talented woman and phangirls cannot fucking handle that without kicking and screaming and slinging shit around like hyperactive monkeys in a third world zoo enclosure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
